As many of you know, we spent the weekend in Memphis doing some apartment hunting. I will be starting my Ph.D. program in the History department of the University of Memphis in the fall. It was a very successful visit. We had the opportunity to meet some new friends who are already at the university. Danny also made some friends- notably Asher, a sweet old dog, and Faith, a sweeter little girl. Faith's dad, Kevin, just finished his first year of the Ph.D. program, and her mom, Kris, is working on a Ph.D. in English. They were kind enough to let us stay with them, as well as give us some tips on apartments. Additionally, Robert and Lisa (he's further along in the program) had us over for some of the best food we've had in a long time. Only rice would have made it better. :) We all went out to dinner for some real southern BBQ at Corkey's. It was delicious! Paul said he can definitely get used to the eating down south.
Along with the apartment visits, we spent an afternoon downtown at the famous Peabody Hotel. They have five ducks who swim in the fountain of their lobby. Every day, they march down from their rooftop house down to the fancy lobby, and at the end of the day, they march back upstairs. Danny loved the fountain.
Please keep us in your prayers as we finalize our moving plans. Especially pray for a job for Paul, and a good transition for Danny to having me away a few hours a week.
In the spirit of the Memorial Day weekend, we decided to meet our extended family at Valley Forge for a picnic and a little bit of history. Danny even posed (meaning we posed him) as George Washington.
George Washington and a large portion of the American army spent the winter of 1777-1778 here. The top picture is the head quarters of Washington. It was a humble two small rooms for all the officers of the colonial army, with town small bedrooms upstairs. The last picture is of the huts the soldiers built, in teams of 12, to house themselves for the winter. Our history is so amazing- filled with men and women who sacrificed so much to establish and preserve the wonderful country. We are so blessed!

Danny's food experience continues to grow. He loves peas. He also loves to get them all over his hands, face, bib, and even hair.
